With my old windows version, I could sort icons in a folder by date…with the latest in front (using large icons view). Under Win XP, it seems that the sort order is from earliest to latest in that view. Is there a way to sort by date in descending order (without resorting to the details view)?
    Thanks in advance,

Each time you click on the ‘Modified’ option it toggles the order: ascending, descending, ascending….
I think you’ll get what you want by selecting the date option again.

Thanks, Leif, but it doesn’t work on mine. When I choose “Modifed” it sorts ascending only, no matter how many times I click on it. It works correctly if I choose the Details view, but not the icons view. Any other suggestions?

That’s wierd – I could have sworn it worked before. Let me check again from the pc I was using – won’t be until tomorrow now.

          Phil,

Mine works the same if I select Icons view then order by Modified. If first I select descending by Modified then switch to Icons view remains in the descending modified order.

Thanks, Tony. Well, this is really weird. Only if I view by Lists or Details can I toggle the arrangement. (I am able to switch between Name, Size, Type, & Modifed in any view, however). In the 3 other views, I can’t toggle between ascdending & descending. confused

        Leif,

When I click on Modified it arranges the files in order of Date Modified. How would that help ?? I don’t believe that what Phil wants to do is an available option in XP. shrug

My reading of what Phil said in post 475369, it is what he wants.

In Details view, clicking on Date Modified toggles between ascending and descending date. It seems that it will only give you an ascending sort if you select Modified in icon view (though I still swear I got it to toggle the other day…!)

My mistake. blush I thought he was wanting to sort by date created. It’s a view I never use and I guess I thought that the Date option in Windows 98 was for the date created and not modified. Either way, I can’t get the files to toggle between ascending and decending in any view but List. shrug

              Hi Guys:
Are you both saying that when you choose ANY arrangement (e.g. Name, Modified, etc.) & you are in Icon view, that it won’t toggle? i.e. it only toggles in List or Details view?

            • #944842

              Does seem that way 🙁

Thanks, Leif. I think I’ll look for a utility that may change it. shrug
