For some reason Windows Explorer is no longer sorting by date correctly. On my computer the regional settings are dd/mm/yyyy, so a file’s date might appear as 31/12/2009. Explorer seems to be sorting first by day, then month, then year, so that if I try to look at the most recent files in a given folder (Date Modified descending), I get to see all the files modified on December 31 (regardless of year), then October 31, etc. etc.

The only thing that’s changed recently on this particular laptop is an upgrade to SP1 when I noticed that the machine was no longer getting security updates.

Since I constantly hunt for files by date, this is a severe challenge … any suggestions for how to fix?
