AskWoody_MVPMarch 29, 2016 at 7:52 pm #45246Is this about Office 365 or the full product?

GuestMarch 30, 2016 at 2:35 am #45247In a money saving moment, I loaded ‘Libre Office 5’ & ‘Gimp’: works for me.
But I guess, in the professional world, you have to pay through the nose, and ‘download stuff’, or alternately live and pay in the cloud.
Thoughts of AK.
p.s I wonder how much of MS’s customer base has been lost to W10 ? -

GuestMarch 30, 2016 at 8:44 am #45250It gets far worse. When you have many business clients, you have to create many live accounts to tie their Office purchases together, and there is absolutely no way to easily track which Office product key goes to which computer, and the key you use to do the initial installation isn’t your product key, it just allows you to be assigned a key. There are a couple clicks to do on the install website to get the actual product key you would use to do a reinstall of Office, the key from the small card or email confirmation is one use, it can’t be used to do a reinstall. To track these is a nightmare. When I do a new install for a client I have to input the key from the card in their live account, go through the clicks needed to find the actual product key, then record this info into a spreadsheet along with the computer info so I know which license goes to which computer, as all you get when you log on to do a reinstall is the date the key was used.

My guess is that very little if any. It is not the first time Microsoft messes up an OS upgrade. Even Vista was fixed well by the time SP2 was released and has followers including on this site. You can think of Windows 7 as being Vista SP3 in the same way as I am tempted to see Windows 10 as Windows 8 SP3, now SP4 with the release of 1511.
Running Windows 10 here and having lots of headaches, but in the end it will all be good… hopefully 🙂 -

AskWoody_MVPMarch 30, 2016 at 4:02 pm #45253I doubt that even Edge would work. It seems that we are stuck with IE and Silverlight for a while, at least when dealing with Microsoft sites.
The fact that they mandate using a Microsoft account is very much in line with their concept of using a ‘Microsoft account’. I used it for a while on Windows 10, but realised that a regular local account would do the job. You still need the Microsoft login though when dealing with things like Windows Store or OneDrive even if logged in with a local account.
Not many choices left unfortunately, either use Microsoft products and play their game or use alternative software. It look more and more like Apple while it was not supposed to. -

It is incredible that they have made it so cumbersome and time-consuming.—-

It is interesting for a non-techie person like myself to read brief-overview reports/explanations like this by people who work in your industry…
I’ll once again say a general *Thank You*,
to all the computer-industry folks who participate on Woody’s site,
and to Woody himself most especially,
for sharing your experiences and insights. -
