Watermark Not Clearing on All Pages (Word XP)

I put a text watermark in my document. When I went to change the wording in that mark, I noticed that on two pages (first pages of two different sections, where sections have a different first page and different odd and even pages), the watermark didn’t clear — I was actually looking at two watermarks on those pages.

I can’t seem to do anything to clear the mark on those pages. I’ve selected “No Watermark” and it clears just fine from all pages except for those two. I’ve deleted the section and it goes away (I think), but when I put a section break (odd page) back, it reappears. I have to have a section break there.

This is driving me bananas !!! I was hoping it wouldn’t print so I could just proceed, but it does print so I’m hosed if I can’t get rid of it.

Can anybody help?

A watermark is actually an object in the header. Select View/Header and Footer. Click on a watermark, and press Delete. Repeat until there are no more watermarks. Close the header.

Do you have any continuous section breaks defined on the page before the watermarks you are trying to remove? You might have to remove ALL section breaks, kill the watermarks again, then reinstitute any necessary section breaks.

Hans’ solution worked. I was going down the path you suggested, but since deleting one section and creating another caused it to show up again, I was hoping not to have to do that (I have 13 sections in this document!) because I wasn’t convinced it would work. Turned out the solution was way simple — just find the graphic when viewing header/footer and delete it.

So, problem solved and I’ll sleep well tonight. Hooray for the Lounge!

I’m glad Hans’ simple solution worked for you. I always did tend to make things too complicated. Perhaps that’s a result of being a consistent recipient of Murphy’s Law; I don’t even bother trying the simple solutions any more, especially (thanks to Mr. Murphy) when that’s all that’s called for!!
