Just a thought. As this doesn’t seem to have been caused by anything you were installing, but rather by something you did while “cleaning up”, you might try a system restore to a point before you began your cleanup operations.

even with page down about eight waves are generated, and the down arrow there is a wave for every line. It is like a boat is passing by and there a waves rippels all throught hte screen. Hi, this is garilous; I have the same problem with “waves”. I discovered it is not IE at all. It has to be Windows XP, SP2 because it happens in all my software programs. I have a new Dell computer and had lots of problems with it, including “waves” and sent to back to Dell to have it repaired (I had it 60 days so couldn’t return it for a new one). They started from scratch, reinstalled Windows , and when I received it back, I installed all my software. However, the “wavy scroll” problem still exists. I will notify Dell about this again, but if anyone has a solution, please reply. In some problems, eg.Quicken, the scrolling is so bad, my mouse cannot be controlled. Thanks.

Did it happen when you got the PC back but before you starting installing software? Did you try it after each piece of software was installed? Have you been making backups along the way at various points when you know the PC is working OK?

It happened when I got my PC back from Dell; when I went on IE to check on it; BEFORE I installed anything.
As I installed my programs, I checked each time and it still was a problem.
Yes, I backed up at various points, but the wavy scrolling was always present.
I believe it is a Windows XP2 problem. What else can it be. I may have to live with it because there are no answers.

Have you adjusted the screen refresh rate or the hardware acceleration?

Right-click on your desktop > Properties…
Display properties > Display > Advanced…

Otherwise:
Have you tried with a different monitor?
Is the problem on a CRT monitor (big glass jobby) or a flat screen monitor (LCD type)?
Have you got any electro-magnetic source, such as speakers or power cables, near to your monitor?

Leif; I have a LCD flat screen monitor. FYI: when I bought this new Dell 2 months ago, all was working fine inluding the scrolling. Then my hard disks went bad, were replaced and Dell reinstalled Windows about 3 times in between. When it still was not good, Dell had me send the CPU back to them and they “started from scratch”. Everything is all right now except for the “wavy scrolling”. I have to throw it back in Dell’s hands again.

Hi all, this is Garilous; just wanted everyone to know I solved my own problem. Dell never installed my Video Driver on my 2 month old computer!! I happened to notice that it was not installed when I went to Control Panel–System–Drivers and there is was with a big yellow question mark that said “this device is not installed”.
Could you believe that Dell’s technician”experts” didn’t even suggest this??
Anyway, I now have perfect scrolling!! All’s well.
