• What installed Node.js, Git and Vim?

My weekly Secunia scan alerted me to the fact that Vim editor was an out-of-date version. and needed to be updated.

I didn’t even know that I had installed Vim editor. Curiosity led me to discover that it had been installed at exactly the same time as Git and Node.js, but I still don’t know what installed it.

Can anyone tell me what includes these programs in its installation routine? One thought is Aptana Studio 3, which I uninstalled some time ago, as, when I stopped running a society website, I had no further need of Aptana as an editor.

Have you installed the Windows Bash Beta?
Vim is a Linux editor. Git is like a software depository.

Cradom – thanks, no, I have not installed the Windows Bash Beta.

These installations are dated July 2014, but I cannot see what installation will have caused these to be placed on my system then.

      Thanks!

Awhile back I had a Secunia alert for node.js and traced it down to my NVIDIA GeForce Experience updater for my NVIDIA Graphics card.

Don't take yourself so seriously, no one else does 🙂

A bit of digging reveals that Node.js is almost always deployed in a web server environment.

      Node.js (Wikipedia)
      Node.js (Makeuseof)

That matches up well with your mention of hosting a society website.

BHarder – many thanks, I shall probably remove these, as I have no need of them, and I prefer to know WHY programs made their way on to my drive.
