AskWoody LoungerSeptember 9, 2010 at 9:18 am #1243688All I can find is that KB911895 is an update called HID Non-User Input Data Filter. Check this thread in MS Answers Forum.
As an optional update, I would not allow it to be installed unless I had a specific need for it. If it has already been installed via automatic updating, have you experienced any problems since the update? If so, you can check Program and Features in Control Panel and click on View Installed Updates, locate KB911895 in the list and uninstall.
If you have no joy there, you could try a System Restore point just before the update installed.
If you want to have more control over what updates you want to allow, go to Control Panel | Windows Update | Change Settings and under Important updates, be sure Check for Updates but let me choose whether to download and install them is selected as your preferred option.
Any update you do not want to download and install can be hidden so it will not be offered to you again. Just right click on the offered update and select Hide Update and click OK.
Hope this helps.

AskWoody LoungerSeptember 9, 2010 at 10:40 am #1243701hey Gerald thanks for the reply!!! Update not installed. Didn’t know what is was, reason for post. To be honest still don’t know what the heck it is. Checked answers forum per your post. Answers there not very helpful. Will not install this, looks like trouble in the making!!!! Thanks for your help, feel better knowing someone far more advanced than I didn’t get the point of this optional update. Again, THANK YOU

AskWoody LoungerSeptember 9, 2010 at 11:10 am #1243711Glad to help! I have several optional updates that I have hidden. MS does not have a good track record for reliable updating. Watch Susan Bradley’s articles in the WS Newsletter. She offers good advice as to which updates are sorely needed and safe to apply. Also, check Woody Leonhard’s Ask Woody web site. He has some great info on MS updates as well.
HID stands for Human Interface Device, which could be a mouse, Keyboard, etc, and the MS Answers thread centered around screen saver functionality. So my best guess is this update has something to do with filtering non-user input to one of these devices that has negatively affected screen saver activity.
There again, if you don’t need it, don’t allow it.

AskWoody LoungerSeptember 14, 2010 at 7:56 am #1244322Good morning Gerald.
>>> As an optional update, I would not allow it to be installed unless I had a specific need for it.
I grab ALL MS updates, whatever ! I figure that they know more about running my machines than I. Mind you, I keep a very also up-to-date clone on a USB HD, just in case. Not bitten yet.
I also grab all Silverlight and C + + updates, I do not use them ! Talk about faith and dedication.
Have a great day. Jean.
