GuestMarch 26, 2011 at 12:31 am #57120For those who must have W-7 SP1 right away, the procedure is to install, then reboot. This can mostly be avoided by using any System Cleanup Tool which clears Windows Prefetch as part of its cleanup routines, as far as I know. (If I am correct, even CCleaner has a setting to do this.) Then, at most two reboots would be needed to create new Prefetch data.
And I am not in any hurry to apply this Service Pack. Wait and see who screams, as usual.

InactiveApril 2, 2011 at 6:35 am #57121I had Win7 SP-1 automatically installed on my then new (as of three days) computer behind my back before I could set Windows Automatic Updater to “notify only” mode.
Except for un-renaming the “my documents” folder which I had given a more adult name, and the reinitializing of Windows Media Player back to Microsoft’s default “spy” settings, I have had no problems with Win7 SP-1. Fortunately I caught the Win Player change immediately.

We have a Lounge here (actually at Windows Secrets Newsletter). No fee to join — just sign up and take advantage of this useful user-to-user forum. It’s at
Follow the Lounge tab and sign up. Then post this question in the Networking area, and many folks with a lot of knowledge of Windows Networking will be available to help you work out your networking issues. I suspect there will be a lot of responses, as your issue has several obvious pieces which are relatively easy to correct.
Not enough room here to help, but meet us in the Lounge and I think we can get your network up and running pretty quickly. In the end you will probably have an extra cable modem, so I hope you kept the Motorola Modem receipt so you can return the extra Modem. Cable company modems are perfectly OK and quite secure.
