    I noticed recently that if I open Google with my cursor outside the browser window, I see this:

    [indent][/indent]

    but as soon as I move the cursor ‘inland’, I get the normal view, with ‘Google’ Search’ and ‘I’m feeling lucky’ buttons etc.

    [indent][/indent]

    Am I missing something obvious?

      What browser are you using?

        Firefox 3.5.3 – it doesn’t seem to do the same with IE8

            Even if you load Google with your cursor definitely outside the ‘viewing window’? The ‘normal’ view fades in rather than jumps and I suspect it is deliberate. It’s pretty much all Greek to me, but the initial page source starts off with:

            Code:
            <meta http-equiv="content-type" content="text/html;

            (I tried attaching the source as a .txt and .doc file, but it fails without explanation. I guess it is being seen as possibly malicious code.)

            I'm just intrigued as to why they are doing it…

      Google has been experimenting with a minimalist start page, but I thought it wasn’t generally available yet…
