When did copiers get the software to not copy checks/cash?

We have an ancient copier that still copies checks. It HAS to be over 20 years old.  Or rather we MAY still have as it’s on it’s last legs and we’re not sure the vendor can find the part to fix it.

When did copiers start mandating that copiers can’t copy money and checks without having to edit the zoom size or mandate black and white?
