AskWoody LoungerFebruary 1, 2011 at 7:17 pm #1265598Andrew, I accidently stumbled across a link to the Organizer in the ribbon just the other day, under the DEVELOPER Tab, on the DOCUMENT TEMPLATE window. I happily thought “Oh look, the Organizer!” and then promptly forgot where I’d seen it, but this query got me hunting it down.
Of course, the DEVELOPER tab isn’t shown by default [the setting is in the MICROSOFT OFFICE BUTTON (which I call the MOB), WORD OPTIONS, POPULAR], so they don’t make it easy, do they.
Also I’m in Word 2007, but I bet it’s the same in 2010. And as you suggested, I added the Organizer to my QAT back in the beginning, having not been able to find it in the ribbon.

AskWoody PlusFebruary 2, 2011 at 12:18 pm #1265699Hi Judy and Andrew (and kentg),
FWIW, I have both 2007 and 2010 and the Document Template dialog control is on the Developer tab in both versions. Open it and the Organizer button is in the bottom left. It’s a very useful dialog other than for the Organizer, but as Judy points out, the Developer tab is not displayed by default. (The Document Template dialog is the old Templates and Add-Ins command on the toolbar, pre-2007.)
In 2010, you must click the File tab > Options > Customize Ribbon, then in the right column, find Developer and check the box next to it. This will display the tab and make the Document Template dialog available. Actually a little easier than finding and placing the Organizer on the QAT.
On the other hand, the QAT is a more convenient location. If you don’t use the Organizer much and might forget where it is, you might want to put it on the QAT where it is always available.
Best, Kim

I have Word 2010 and can’t see the organiser in my Developer Tab. I’m pretty sure it is not anywhere on the 2010 ribbon because when I add it to the QAT it is located in the “Commands not in the ribbon” group.
This seems to be a dialog that Microsoft don’t like much, it used to be useful for moving autotext entries but that has been removed from the organiser and now they don’t even put it on the default interface.

One reason the Organizer may have fallen out of favor is that it doesn’t work with some file management systems. I cannot copy styles around using the Organizer anymore, at least not in documents that aren’t saved on my hard drive, because we use iManage file manager (now called DeskSite, I believe) in our office. I miss this function almost daily.

I think if you open both documents you might be able to do it. Of course, that is an extra step…
