In Windows 7 Home Premium Edition, which temp folders would you experts advise regularly clearing down? Thanks for any advice.

Patch reliability is unclear. Unless you have an immediate, pressing need to install a specific patch, don't do it. |

I always clear out:
c:windowstemp
c:UsersxxxAppDataLocalTemp
As far as I can tell the Disk Cleanup utility ignores the first directory, and doesn’t clean up everything in the second.
One caveat: I have found a few programs whose poorly-written installers place their uninstall routines in the Users Temp directory, which prevented me from uninstalling the program.
There is also:
C:UsersxxxAppDataLocalMicrosoftWindowsTemporary Internet Files
But you can get IE to clean that for you by deleting your browsing history. Or better yet just set the space allocated for browsing history to a small amount (I have mine set to 50MB) and then forget about it – IE will automatically delete older items when the space gets used up.
Right click and open a Command Prompt as an Administrator and type:
cleanmgr /sageset:99
then type:
cleanmgr /sagerun:99
See what happens to the Windows Disk Cleanup utility!
What does happen? Sorry to seem cautious but I’m reluctant to try it without knowing, Windows 7 has played enough nasty tricks on me already.
The default Disk Cleanup utility only shows a small portion of the folders that can be cleaned. This just adds all the available folders. Just as the default utility, you still choose which folder you want to clean out.
I have not found ANY nasty tricks from Win 7. In my humble opinion it is the best offering for OS’es available today. This addition to the Disk Cleanup utility has been available since at least Win 95 that I am aware of.
