Why is it possible to delete the page number on slides?

Hi all,

I received a presentation where it possible to delete the page number on the slides.

I.e., the page number insertion is defined in the master, but in the normal view of the slides the page number looks like a text box and it is possible to delete it.

This is new behaviour in versions 2007 and 2010. Not a good idea IMHO but that’s how it works.
