On June 15, 2022 I checked my wi-fi broadband speed running Windows 10 and it was 500+Mbs.  My broadband company says my subscription is “up to 1Gb”.  On Sept 3, 2022 I ran my speed again and it was 44Mbs and continuing to this date.  The only change made to my computer between those dates was updating to Windows 11, 22H2.  My desktop is an HP Envoy and I ran all the troubleshooting programs on it without showing any problems.  All my other equipment – Laptop Lenovo running Win 11 22H2 is 500+Mbs, Other desktop running Win 10 is at 500+Mbs and my iPhone shows 500+Mbs.  So I know my broadband company is providing 500+Mbs and other equipment is OK.  Has anyone else run into this problem? I would appreciate any suggestions to fix this.

Maybe ask the hardware vendor for help. Or check their Forums. You have narrowed down the problem, so they can not blame it on something other than Windows 11. Its probably some TCP setting but even guessing is over my head.

Check for a newer driver for your wifi card. If there isn’t one, go to Device Manager, delete the network card and reboot. Windows will replace the driver.

Do you use a 3rd party anti virus product?

      cheers, Paul

Caution required here. Without an alternative internet access (USB wifi dongle or a physical Ethernet cable), Windows may not be able to replace the driver.

        Yes, I use Avira Premium

Thanks all for your suggestions.  I just found out that my computer, HP, does not have Wi-fi network drivers for Windows 11.  They suggest I return to Windows 10.  What a bummer!

Something to check. (I believe that Win 11 hasn’t changed the Settings info used below).

Most routers today are multi-band. Are you connected to the 2.4Ghz band or the 5Ghz band? If you don’t know this, you can verify as follows: When connected via your wifi, go to Settings, Network & Internet, Status. This should display your active network. You should now click on the box labelled Properties and scroll down. In the list of Properties the Network band line will identify whether the connection is 2.4 or 5Ghz. Note the Link Speed (Receive/Transmit) line with its pair of numbers followed by (Mbps) showing the maximum supported by your adapter. On my system the values are 144/144 (Mbps) at 2.4 Ghz or 866/866 (Mbps) at 5Ghz.

What is your wifi adapter? My wife’s 2-year old HP Envy’s adapter with WiFi 6 support is from Intel. HP never issued driver updates, but Intel Driver & Support Assistant pops up new drivers about every 2 months.

        HTH.  Regards, Phil

Hi Phil,  Thanks for responding.  My wifi adapter is Realtech RTL 8822 BE 802.11 ac Pcle Adapter.  I am connected to 5Ghz and info on realtech reads 866mbs.  Info from HP says that they don’t support Windows 11 wifi with any drivers.  Revert back to Windows 10.
Think I’ll have to buy an external wifi adapter and delete the HP one.  Maybe that’ll work.  Thanks for responding, John

Well, you can get a Nano-sized USB WiFi adapter for about $20 at Amazon.

In my area and with Spectrum (Charter Cable) Communications cable internet, it depends greatly on the time of day as to what your internet speed may be. On my new Windows 11 Pro 2022 desktop PC with a Killer Wi-Fi Adapter and using the Chrome browser, my speed is very good on weekdays before noon and after 6 PM, usually averaging around 44 Mbps from most senders. But the same internet sites will slow way down to around 1.8 Mbps in the mid to late afternoon on weekdays. Spectrum blames it on school kids coming home from school and all logging onto the system at the same time and going straight to social media platforms. Who knows. When I have something large to download off the internet, like a movie or a Windows CU, I try to do it late at night or very early in the morning; and if the sender will send it at 100 Mbps my system and router will take it at that speed.

If the wifi is working and says it’s connected at 866Mb/s then you have a driver that works.

Test the network speed with one of the speed test apps to be sure it is your computer.
      LAN speed test software

      cheers, Paul
