• Win 10 1909 – Target Release Version missing

OK. So I’ve downloaded Windows10 1909, using the Download Tool suggested by Alex, and upgraded my desktop to 1909 Pro. After having to install the latest WiFi dongle drivers and Video card drivers the system is working well.  I’ve also downloaded WUSShowHide. However, after going to Group Policy to defer updates I’ve been able to “Show updates but not download them” (setting of 2) I can’t find the “Target Release version” policy. It’s there on my laptop (also 1909 with August updates) but not on my desktop.  So I’ve got the delay for feature updates set to 365 in Group Policy.  There are  no updates showing on WUSShowHide and none shown in Settings. My question is, is there a “switch” I have to throw to have TargetReleaseVersion appear in the Group Policies of Windows Update for Business?

A side question – Why are external drives showing up twice in Windows Explorer? With different drive letters? Yet when I expand them they contain exactly the same files and images.

Windows keeps a record of the disks so it can use the same drive letter each time. Seems your update decided it needed to reinitialise the disks so now you have 2.

Try the suggestion on this page to see if it helps.

      cheers, Paul

Windows 10 TargetReleaseVersion is a registry setting not GP.

It  is on my laptop. 1909 with August updates.

      My bad 🙁

TargetReleaseVersion is covered in AKB2000016 for v1903 (maybe 1809 also) onward. There are screenshots under the text portion to show where it is located and how to set it.

I have read that document and found it to be useful in setting up my laptop.  But my question was, Does anyone know why TargetReleaseVersion is showing on my laptop Group Policy under Windows Update For Business, but not on my desktop? My desktop shows 3 entries, not 4. TargetReleaseVersion is completely missing. Both running 1909 with August updates applied.

This is what I see on my desktop computer (as opposed to the images above which are from my laptop). Note that there’s no target release version option, whereas there is on my laptop.

          Strange.
Try creating the Registry entry and see if it then shows up in GP.
The instructions are also in AKB2000016.

I’ll do that. Even if it doesn’t appear in Group Policies, I’ll just use the registry entry for now.

Maybe it needs a fresh version of Administrative Templates ?

          🍻

Just because you don't know where you are going doesn't mean any road will get you there.

GP entries (admin templates) change with versions, usually increase in number.  I just did a clean ISO install of 2004 Pro and there are quite a few more entries than in 1909 Pro.  BTW, the install went fine, it works perfectly (whew!)

You have to add it manually in 1909.  Yet another link on how:

      https://www.ghacks.net/2020/06/27/you-can-now-set-the-target-windows-10-release-in-professional-versions/

If you really don’t want Chredge installed (yuk!), add this too:

      https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/deployedge/microsoft-edge-blocker-toolkit

Save the toolkit; it’s likely to disappear.
