I have Win 8.1 and do not want or need Win 10. I follow Woody and Susan Bradleys suggestions for what to update and when. I made a couple of mistakes on a couple of Optional Updates awhile back that I installed now to find out they are Win 10 updates in disguise plus the KB3035583 I installed way back in July. I keep getting it but, now know not to install it. I also installed KB3068708 in June, KB2976978 in Aug. I am getting all this now from Woodys articles as he finds out more and more on some of these Updates and more as time goes on that they have to do with Win 10 in one way or another. I installed the Gwx program and seems to be working fine as of two days ago. I don’t have the Windows Logo in the Bottom right corner nor the same in my Update Window. Woody now has another program to add called Win10wiwi.com some of the people are leering but Woody gave some background on the guy and company and feels it is ok. My question is. Can I uninstall these updates? How do u uninstall an Update and are there repurcussions either with Microsoft uninstalling or not installing an update they rate as recommended, important or critcal etc., or messing up ur PC by doing so. an explanation or a link would be great. Thanks.
Pat

AskWoody LoungerOctober 19, 2015 at 11:04 am #1533320Thanks jwoods. I thought that I had read that u have like 60 to 90 days to install them but I could be wrong on this. And I also believe I read a couple of times but, again it has been awhile that if u don’t Update with say Critical updates or any updates u would no longer get Microsoft support and they would quit sending Updates to u. But, I am going to respect ur answer. Thanks.

AskWoody LoungerOctober 19, 2015 at 11:59 am #1533332Thanks jwoods. It’s kinda funny but the PC I have now is a Dell Desktop Win 8.1 bought mid Dec of last year. I had Vista on my first PC for 8yrs. I was just an email, Messenger, pics and that kind of thing for that long. I didn’t even know what a Windows Update was lol. About a month before I bought this PC I started reading alot on the Web about trying to find more Ram for my Vista and none was available but u know how it is if u go on the Web for one thing u start coming across other things and perked my interest to learn. But, the absolute biggest thing was the culture shock of going from Vista to Win 8.1. I had bought some of Woody’s books in the past and immediately went out and bought his fantastic 8.1 which was full of Win 8.1 info but also tons of other stuff and since then I have learned alot and read everything I can. Still an average user as far as knowledge goes but learning fast. lol Thanks again.

AskWoody LoungerOctober 19, 2015 at 1:48 pm #1533346jwoods. Man I’m sorry I’m a pain in the ass. I guess I’m not sure what an elevated Run as Administrator is. I went to my start button (which I had installed) and typed cmd in the box and hit enter and get the black box with System 32 at the top. I typed in what u put down and I got a big pop up for a Installer with a bunch of different stuff it looked like it can do and it did list it would uninstall a kb number and I clicked on OK and nothing happened. somehow today I got KB 2976978 Installed on my PC and I didn’t do it. It is listed in my INstalled KB updates but not the Update History Updates????? Strange. Am I going about the Administrator thing the right way???

AskWoody LoungerOctober 20, 2015 at 6:46 am #1533468yes, Jwoods. That took me to the same place I was before. There is a Roland JS that wrote here also saying a little different than u and neither are working for me. He wrote: wusa/uninstall/kb:2976978/norestart/quiet I assume after it is typed in u press the Enter Key which brings up a very big pop up with what looks like a bunch of options u cant click on any of them but one is to uninstal KB’s and all u can do is click on the OK button and nothing happens the KB that installed itself yesterday is still there and it is a Win 10 nagware KB that I just listed

AskWoody LoungerOctober 20, 2015 at 8:02 am #1533489browni. Ok I didn’t notice that on jwoods example. The other gentleman has no spaces shown. Just wanted to mention when I fill in the black pop up box in with the command I am pressing Enter. I can’t see anything else to do there and I am not getting any popup box to click Yes in for an Administrator Permission. I have an Administrator. Jwoods says Select Run as Administrator. I am not seeing those words in a popup or anywhere else. Let me try the space thing that is probably my mistake. Thanks to both.

AskWoody LoungerOctober 20, 2015 at 8:20 am #1533492Simple 56 second procedure on Youtube. Go to the Search charms on the right side of screen in 8.1. Type in ” Installed Updates” Underneath that click on View. Takes u to ur Installed Updates. Left click on Update to be uninstalled and click on Uninstall and Yes and bye bye update . U can probably eliminate the Search Charms and go to Control Panel and get all ur updates showing that way and use same process. Geez. Thanks for all ur help.

AskWoody LoungerOctober 20, 2015 at 3:33 pm #1533540jwoods. My fault I guess. I only left clicked on the cmd prompt? didn’t know any different? I don’t think u mentioned it at the time of explaining. all this is so hard to do by writing. Problem solved now very simple. Thanks for all ur help I know I have been a pain in the butt and appreciate u taking ur time. Thanks very much.
