    Ever since I installed SP4 for windows 2000 my PC won’t shutdown. I have tried changing the Registry key HKLMSOFTWAREMicrosoftWindows NTCurrentVersionWinlogon
    PowerdownAfterShutdown to 0 & 1. but it still reboots with either setting. Of course Microsoft in of no help what so ever. I don’t even care if it actually powers down as long
    as it at least stops at the OK to Power off prompt, but presently it just reboots right back up again every time.
    I have lso verified the CMOS setting to ensure there is no auto start settings enabled for ring or Lan connections.
    This problem is occuring on all the PC’s I have installed this service pack on.

      Just to eliminate one part of the variables: do

      have exactly the same hardware configuration – or is each one as different from the others as it can be?

        It happens on two models of PC’s I am running both a Lucky Gold Star LG16B and an HP 501 Evo Both are P4 machines and have the same soft installed on them. I have several of each model, with Ghost created images loaded on each series of computers. We reinstalled the systems from scratch, testing the shutdown operation with each service pack, patch etc, and as soon as we installed the SP4 service pack we encountered this problem.
