Just spent a few days/nights searching for a workable repair process to get the task scheduler working again. Task Scheduler was completely greyed out, e.g. computer not found, failed to read file, unable to use any of its functions at all, nor schedule a Nero12 BackItUp process.
Tried numinous resolves that appeared in Google, finally found http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/66939-task-scheduler-error-event-id-404-fix.html
Ran the three files posted on that site, the files messed up the computer boot a bit, however sfc /scannow in safe mode sorted that out and Task Scheduler now functions just fine
