Hello All,
Ok, I’ve got one that’s been killing me for a few hours now. A little background: I’ve been running Windows RC build 7100 on my three computers pretty much since it came out. I’ve been a longtime user of hidden admin shares (\computernamec$, d$, and so on) back since when I was running 2000 andor XP all around.
With Windows RC 7100, nothing changed, same procedure, and I was able to access hidden admin shares on all of my three computers. Well, I recently made the jump to Windows final release 7600 on all three, and I can no longer access hidden admin shares no matter what I’ve tried, and believe me, I’ve looked. I get the message that the path cannot be found basically. I can set up regular shares and access them, just not the normal default hidden shares that have always been there.
My account is of course set to be admin.
For testing purposes, I set my firewall to be off (both public and private even though I know only private is needed, but hey, I’m grasping at straws) on all computers, so the firewall should be completely out of the equation.
I’ve set my file and printer sharing settings to be on (again I did both public and private, all settings on) and no go.
Then there’s a registry change that is supposed to fix the situation: ‘HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESoftwareMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionPoliciesSystem’ adding the DWORD value of ‘LocalAccountTokenFilterPolicy’ set to 1 to enable, no go.
UAC is also supposed to be a possible culprit also, but I’ve long since been disabling that to ‘Never Notify’ so that is ruled out.
Next we have Homegroups, which I’ve always skipped and never set one up. I’ve even went as far as to disable both of the services that go along with homegroup and set them to be ‘disabled’ at startup, and that didn’t work.
I am able to set up a hidden c$ share through computer managementshared foldersshares on any given computer, and it works as long as I stay logged in on the given computer, but when I reboot it, itโs gone.
I will be really surprised if anyone can come up with a solution, but equally grateful if they can. I may be overlooking something obvious, but It seems that windows 7 (final version) has just said ‘No more admin shares’
Any help would be appreciated, thanks in advance to anyone that may have any suggestionsโฆ
