I am experiencing problems with AOE 2. Am able to install it but it will not run and you get the XP equivalent of the ME Blue Screen of Death – Windows has experienced a problem.

I am running in Administrator Mode using a Intel Pentium III 1GHz on a DE815EEA Motherboard. I am using the on-board audio but have an Leadtek Nvidia GeForce 2 MX400 video card.

I have tried re-installing the software and installing the program updates but nothing seems to work. if anybody has had similar problems and have found a resolution to it please let me know as this is really frustrating.

It worked fine when I had ME installed so the program is fine. One therefore has to suspect either Windows XP or the drivers. Trying to run the program in compatibility mode makes no difference.

Any help or advice will be appreciated. brickwall

Have you checked with Microsoft to see if Age of Empires 2 is XP-ready? XP is a new platform and is based on Windows NT, which traditionally was lacking in game support.

I can’t help SeanB with his problem but I can say that I have this game running on XP Home Edition with an Elsa Gladiac GeForce 2 MX card with XP’s drivers. The only problem I experienced was that the game attempted to contact the internet at the same time it was changing screen resolutions. I then had a black screen with a gray rectangle at the lower right of the screen. Nothing else was displayed and it just sat there. What I couldn’t see was that this was Zone Alarm’s window asking if I wanted to allow this program to access the internet. I eventually figured it out and the game has caused no problem since except the same problem repeated after I installed Microsoft’s update for the game.
