Patch reliability is unclear. Unless you have an immediate, pressing need to install a specific patch, don't do it. |

AskWoody PlusMarch 17, 2020 at 3:27 pm #2208143Patch Lady (@sbsdiva) mentioned a new Servicing Stack update for Win8.1 (KB4540725) in the latest Newsletter. I’m in Group A & install the Monthly Rollup; is the SSU included in Rollups? Or do I have to download it from the Catalog 1st, install it, then install the Rollup?! I’m sure if I was still in Group B (separate Security Update & IE Cumulative Rollup) that I would have to download & install the SSU First.
Bought a refurbished Windows 10 64-bit, currently updated to 22H2. Have broke the AC adapter cord going to the 8.1 machine, but before that, coaxed it into charging. Need to buy new adapter if wish to continue using it.

ManagerMarch 17, 2020 at 3:36 pm #2208155SSUs have to be installed exclusively (by themselves). They will not show up in WU unless/until the Important queue is empty.
So you have three choices:
Install all the other Important updates and they will show up after the reboot when the queue is empty.
OR
Temporarily HIDE all the other updates until the queue is empty, install the SSU, then unhide the ones you hid.
OR
Download the SSU from the catalog and install it manually (first).

So you have three choices:
Install all the other Important updates and they will show up after the reboot when the queue is empty. That explains what happened when I installed the January updates on January 25th. I installed updates as usual, the system rebooted… & when I checked for updates again, KB4524445 (SSU for 2019-11) popped up! Of course, I installed it & all was right with my Win8.1 world. Thanks for the explanation, PK!
