My computer has decided it does not want to do a restart.  When I request a restart it logs off,  shuts down and quits.  Also, it will not wake from sleep.

Any ideas on where to look to resolve he problem?

Windows 7 Home Premium, SP 1, x64 machine.

      When did this start?
What did you change, if anything?
Do you have an image backup or two?

      cheers, Paul

have you tried using shutdown.exe /r?

the /R switch for shutdown.exe does a full restart or reboot

Have you tried running “sfc /scannow” (without the quotes) yet? That might reveal (and potentially fix) a problem with one of the system files that might be causing the somewhat errant behavior.

P.S. There’s a space between the command and the switch behind it. You need to use that format in order for it to run.

And you need to run it in an Admin Command Prompt.

Copy / type sfc /scannow into the Command window and press Enter.

Assuming George1 can get to an Admin Command Prompt.  A non-admin Command Prompt maybe. Does the computer hard boot to the Win 7 GUI?

If  “Does the computer hard boot to the Win 7 GUI?”  mean does the Windows desktop come up when I turn the computer on,  the answer is yes.

Ran sfc /verifyonly which reported no problems found.

Holy smoke George1, it looks like you’ve stumped the computer geeks here on AskWoody!  I have the same Windows 7 as you, but never had your problem.
