I believe I have encountered a scenario not covered in Woodyโs recent May 2020 Update article on Computerworld. I have had Windows 10 Updates paused through 6.3.20 for several weeks. I had intended to extend the date outward even further but inadvertently neglected to do so. Now Iโm in a situation where I have both Cumulative Updates pending restart and the Windows 10 May 2020 Feature Update pending restart. Since both are pending restart I donโt see any way of installing the Cumulative updates alone as Woody had suggested previously. I did not restart but further paused all updates through 6.26.20 thereby ridding myself of the restart notification, however, Iโm not sure where to go from here? Please advise as how to proceed from this point forward. Is it possible now to install the Cumulative Updated only? I have a Lenovo laptop running Windows 10 Pro, Version 1909, Build 18363.778. Thank you.

Patch reliability is unclear. Unless you have an immediate, pressing need to install a specific patch, don't do it. |

AskWoody PlusJune 9, 2020 at 5:35 am #2270757flashcatj’s predicament sounds similar to the one I posted about some time ago:
See 2nd paragraph in: https://www.askwoody.com/forums/topic/surprise-update-to-1909/
The behavior of Windows 10 when you reach the end of the feature update deferral timer does not seem logical to me. At the moment Windows 10 2004 is only an optional update, but based on my 1909 experience when you hit the end of the timer you may experience a forced install. It would make more sense to be offered the install, but as it is optional then you should be able to opt out.
Perhaps one of the experts here can clarify the expected behavior.
Thanks HS
