• Windows 10 now requires password instead of PIN

Was able up to today to log on using a PIN. W10 now requires password.

    Windows 10 Professional Version 1903, OS build 18362.295 – Intel Core i5-6500T, 16GB DDR4

PIN has been established, recognized and saved. Up until a short while ago I had been able to sign on after a startup, reboot or waking from sleep. I don’t mind this benign extra security step and much prefer it to password.

Settings > Accounts > Sign-in options > Require sign-in – When PC wakes from sleep: selected. Has been selected, which up to now enabled me to sign on with my PIN.

Dynamic Lock Sign-in option is disabled.

Existing PIN was re-submitted and saved in Settings > Accounts > Sign-in options. Current Windows Hello PIN status is: PIN is all set up to sign in to Windows, apps, and services.

In Settings > Accounts > Sign-in options > Privacy, both ‘Show account details’ and ‘Use my sign-in info’ have always been turned Off.

Windows Hello identification data in Settings > Accounts > Sign-in options has not been removed.

There have been and are no existing bio-metric devices, Picture Passwords nor Security Keys.

What I’m uncertain of is what, if any, other Windows Setting I might try to revert back to PIN. Any constructive assistance would be greatly appreciated.

P.S. At first glance these two Windows answers/support links appeared to be The Fix. As you may suspect, they weren’t: https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/all/windows-10-asks-for-password-instead-of-pin/0cf2fd33-a3b3-4bbc-8df4-4fcedbe47451, https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/4026196/windows-10-pin-sign-in-issues

Coincidentally, I became a Plus Member today. Not that I felt in any way obliged to, mind you; I have in the past read up on and relied on Woody’s MS-DEFCON for making sense of Windows Updates. That’s not likely to change anytime soon.

You may have some corruption in your Windows files.  First, open an elevated Command Prompt (or elevated Power Shell) and run

      sfc /scannow

If that finds and corrects errors, try your PIN again.  If your PIN still doesn’t work, or if sfc finds errors but can’t correct them, from an elevated Command Prompt (or elevated Power Shell) run

      dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth

Always create a fresh drive image before making system changes/Windows updates; you may need to start over!
We all have our own reasons for doing the things that we do with our systems; we don't need anyone's approval, and we don't all have to do the same things.
