Windows 11 / 12 also as a subscription version for normal users? Notes in the Canary

    Translated

A Windows subscription version is nothing new for small or large companies. They can book different variants as a Windows 365 Cloud PC. Microsoft is currently in the process of integrating a function to start this cloud version directly via the local Windows via the “Active Applications”.

..rumors arose that Microsoft Windows “12” (or whatever it is called) could also be offered to normal users as a subscription, alongside the usual versions from Microsoft…

.. I stumbled across the slmgr.ini. The slmgr.vbs (example here , or here ) is a function with which you can remove, add, activate or renew the activation of Windows.

    ..Subscription Edition – (L_MsgSubscriptionEdition)
Subscription Type – L_MsgSubscriptionType (as “Device-Based Subscription” or “User-Based Subscription”)
And the subscription status – L_MsgSubscriptionStatus (Active, Inactive, Deactivated, Expired..

One can now speculate what Microsoft has in mind here. But you can assume that in addition to the many AI functions (Copilot etc.), a cloud or subscription version for normal users is also being planned…

Microsoft plans major platform upgrades for ‘Windows 12’ that will modernize the OS with AI, faster updates, and better security

Windows “CorePC” is the spiritual successor to Windows “Core OS.”

    * We are already paying for Windows OS (~$50) with every purchase of new PC.
Will we have to subscribe to PC hardware as well ?

No because vendors won’t want to deal with the support costs that a subscription brings to the table.

No, of course ‘Windows 12’ won’t require a subscription to use it

Rumors that the next version of Windows will require a subscription are greatly exaggerated

This week, the rumor mill has been rife with activity over the possibility that “Windows 12” will be subscription based. Ever since we entered into the era of “Windows as a Service,” rumors that the next version of Windows will be subscription based never fail to appear.

Now, references to a subscription model were found in the latest Windows preview builds, suggesting that Microsoft is finally going to force users to pay a monthly subscription to use Windows, right? No…

With that said, I don’t think it’s unlikely that the next version of Windows will have some new capabilities that require a subscription to utilize, tied to your Microsoft account and services..

That doesn’t mean there won’t some features in the OS that require a subscription to use, but if you’re not interested in any of that, you’ll be able to use the next version of Windows on your PC at home just like you do with Windows 11, no monthly fee required…

They are not greatly exaggerated. Why has the leaked version of Windows 12 been cloud base with payments for everything? It is MS new way to make profit for its crappy telemetry spyware with subscription. Only thing MS focus on is GUI changes and spying on users rather than actual security and improvements. This is why several of its employees have start to leak data for the public to see it. At least this is my two cents to this. But none one cares about cents now. Found 30 cents on the sidewalk and several people ahead of me walk by and did not pick it up. I pick it up.
