    Hello all.

My organization uses laptops which are strictly used for VPN and remote desktop connectivity to a tower PC located at the business. I know there are better ways, this is not what we are here to discuss. Some time ago the vendor we order these laptops from moved from Win10 to Win11. It wasn’t too much of a bother based on how the organization uses the laptops.

This order hasn’t worked out as well. I’ve gone through the basic initialization of the devices and then when I connect to the domain and restart suddenly my ethernet and wifi options are gone. Simply “enabling” the ethernet and wifi does not work. Moving back to a workgroup and trying the same thing also doesn’t work.

Here are a few things I’ve tried:
    – Attempt to reenable ethernet and wifi via control panel
    – Uninstall ethernet and wifi via device manager and restart PC
-Update all drivers via Windows Update all the way before joining the domain.
    -Verified Windows Firewall is off.
-Verified preloaded antivirus (McAfee) is uninstalled.
    – Group policy “Set an active power plan”- enabled (forum find)
    – Group policy  “Microsoft network client: Digitally sign communication (always) and (if server agrees)- enabled (forum find)
    – Group policy “Enable insecure guest logins” – enabled (forum find)
    – Joining domain under different name
    – Disable Intel Dynamic Tuning Technology Telemetry Service

I’m pointing the finger at 24H2 because we’ve gotten the same model laptop in the past as 23H2 and it’s worked fine. I have no way to roll these back outside of manually installing 23H2.

Has anyone else encountered this? Joining domain disables ethernet and wifi.

    OS: Windows 11 24H2
    Domain Level: Microsoft Server 2016
Model of Laptop: Lenovo ThinkBook 16 G6 IRL

I join to domains all the time and don’t see this.  Is there any group policies or other settings being pushed out by the network that are pushing out these “hide network settings”?

I would not disable the firewall.

We ended up finding a fix. It happened to be Web Proxy Auto-Discovery Service, which we have disabled via a domain-wide group policy by default.
When the laptop logged into the domain, the group policy was applied, and then the network would die.
The 24H2 puts “WinHTTPAutoProxySvc” as a dependency under here: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\WcmSvc in the registry.

Removing WinHTTPAutoProxySvc from the options in “DependOnService” ended up fixing the issue.

That’s a pretty dumb dependency given the issues with auto proxy!

Oh my god, thank you so much. I have been researching this for a couple of days now; I tried everything from unjoining, joining through PowerShell, and manual join to DNS stuff, but none worked.

      Microsoft, man. 🤦

      Thanks again!
