One of our technology illiterate friends just acquired a Windows 11 notebook.

They asked, and I suggested, that they install the ESTE security suite on the new machine.

They went to Best Buy, grabbed an ESTE DVD, and went to the helpdesk for assistance in installing the software.

The tech advised them that Windows 11 had robust security features and that they did not need to install ESTE.

In addition, the tech removed the bloatware from the system.

Many will say that Microsoft Defender is good enough.

Defender does all you need and is free.
Better off spending the money on an external HDD for backup and getting a password manager.

      cheers, Paul

I’m not a big fan of Defender, but it’s not horrible.  I do agree that money would be better spent getting a password manager and an external drive of some sort for backups.

Any and all so-called “Security Suite” software in my view gets way too involved in Window innards to the extent that many, if not most, have a noticeable effect on performance (not an anecdote from recent personal experience, but a conglomeration of complaints read on sites such as AskWoody).  Microsoft Defender also gets involved in Windows innards but I believe in much more effective and much less intrusive ways/places.

Windows Defender and Malwarebytes play very well together, and make, for me at least, the best “Security Suite” one might wish to have.

Always create a fresh drive image before making system changes/Windows updates; you may need to start over!
We all have our own reasons for doing the things that we do with our systems; we don't need anyone's approval, and we don't all have to do the same things.
We were all once "Average Users".

Although I am not using Windows 11, I have Windows 10 Pro version 21H2 1526 updated through February 2022-02 CU, and waiting for Susan green light for March, I will add that I agree with bbearren “Windows Defender and Malwarebytes play very well together,” and would like to add that I also use the free edition of SuperAntiSpyware as an “On Demand” second opinion to Windows Security Microsoft Defender Anitvirus and Malwarebytes. They also have a paid ‘professional’ version that I do not know about. Here are two links for info:

and from Capterra “Helping businesses choose better software since 1999” some reviews:
