• Windows 11 dual display issue

I upgraded to Windows 11 with no apparent installation issues. I use a laptop with an external monitor as a second display. In Windows 10, the placement of windows in either display remained stable where I placed them. A common setup is to have a full-screen program on Display 1 on the laptop, and browser and file manager windows on Display 2 on the external monitor.

But now, whenever I click on a window on Display 2, all of the windows jump around and usually land in display 1. This happens every time. I have searched for relevant settings in Settings->Display, but cannot get this sorted. Is there a setting which is different or missing in Windows 11? It has been too long since I set this up in Windows 10 for me to remember.

For troubleshooting purposes, at System > Display, try unchecking “Remember windows locations based on monitor connection” and/or “Minimize windows when a monitor is disconnected” as those two settings do not exist in Windows 10.

Thanks for the help. I unchecked “Remember windows locations based on monitor connection” (“Minimize windows when a monitor is disconnected” was not checked) and re-started, but it did not resolve the issue. I changed the full-screen program to windowed and that does resolve the issue, but I dislike the loss of real estate, especially as I cannot change the size of the taskbar icons, or its location.
