Windows 11 23H2

When I open file explorer from the taskbar, I have configured file Explorer so that Explorer’s right pane opens to the folder structure I want: C:\GandD

However, the left pane only shows “OS (C):)

I want the left pane to automatically by default expand “C” so that the folder structure under “C” is always displayed. I do have “Expand to current folder” checked but this does not make any difference.

How do I accomplish this?

You piqued my curiosity. I tried every command line combination I could find, and couldn’t get the results you want. Good luck. Maybe someone else will come through.

1. Right-Click Desktop
2. Select New
3. Select Sortcut
4. Type full path to the desired directory in the “Type the location..” box
5. Click Next
6. Type your desired description, eg. C:\GandD
7. Click Finish
8. Drag it to the task bar if you want it there

Have you tried this?

%windir%\explorer.exe /n, C:\GandD

In Windows 10, that expands the C: drive in the left pane like this.

On my Windows 10 PC, %windir%\explorer.exe /n, C:\Games ⇒

Drive-C-Expanded

I realize explorer.exe in Windows 11 is different so the /n option may no longer exist.

While I was researching explorer switches, that’s exactly what I read in several places. I mean, about the “/n” switch not working in Win 11.
