    Microsoft keeps trying and trying… and nobody seems to know what they’re trying to do!InfoWorld Tech Watch.

      I have hidden KB2952664 as I have all the “ease the upgrade experience” updates and most other optional updates as well. There is no way I’m going to mess up my working perfectly Win7 machine by upgrading it to Win 8.1 or 10. If the time comes when Win7 is no longer supported, I’ll buy a new machine with the latest operating system on it.

      @Paul

      Makes sense to me…

      It’s like music to my ears to hear that being said by someone other than myself!

      I wouldn’t be calling the 64% on bare metal on Win10 statistic immediately scary – I’m commenting right now with it on a spare hard drive that would otherwise go unused, with my 7 installation on a SSD. Sure, it would be scary if a significant portion of that 64% decided to upgrade from their existing 7/8/8.1 installation instead of clean installing on a separate hard drive, but it’d be pretty hard to get those numbers.

      I’d say the lack of info given by Microsoft on 2952664 is more scary if anything.

      I had this happen. Hopefully next round of updates will sort it.

      And now from the other end of the discussion.

      I will definitely consider upgrading my Windows 7 laptop, which was expensive and powerful by 2010 standards, to Windows 10 when it becomes available. My hardware is still running fine, except that I may soon have to replace the Hard Drive. That’s trivial compared with configuring and customizing an all-new machine which would probably have a touch screen (ridiculous for a large laptop!).

      So updates like this one (once the bugs are worked out) may be very useful to me. Then again, I probably would do Windows 10 as a clean install. No sense carrying all the Windows 7 baggage over into Windows 10.

      As for replacing the hard drive, cloning onto a new, faster drive is pretty straight-forward. I’m thinking about moving up to a WD Black 7200RPM drive of the same capacity as my current drive. That should last awhile.
