Recently purchased a Samsung netbook. It came with Windows 7 starter edition.
WHen I tried to set up a backup to save a disk image to my network it said that this facility was not available in the starter edition and I would have to go to Windows 7 pro to get it.
I have three other PCs on my network and I regularly save disk images to my NAS.
How can I get my netbook to do the same?

starter edition have many restrictions. If you really need that feature then you have to upgrade.

What about using a free imaging program like Macrium Reflect to make the image and Karen Kenworthy’s Replicator to send it to your NAS?

My netbook seems very slow with W7 starter, if I upgrade to a ‘full’ version will it be even slower ?

Most of the “Starter” systems are very low end. The hardware may NOT support a Home of preiumn version.
What are the spec’s of this NetBook?

Netbooks are for browsing and writing emails or watching a movie while on the road. Nothing else.
There’s a reason why they’re so cheap, after all.

It may not cost you a lot more to buy a laptop sporting Windows 7 Professional than buying and installing it on your netbook. Then you can sell your netbook. There you should not have many performance issues if you can stop yourself from installing too many programs.

you have to upgrade to at least the Windows 7 Professional edition in order to backup to a network drive with Windows Backup.
I doubt your netbook will support it but you still may want to check using the upgrade advisor
