PC World has an articleon a small way to customize your Taskbar icons. Changing Taskbar icons seems to have been a hot topic recently so I thought this might be a great time to show this small change.

Patch reliability is unclear. Unless you have an immediate, pressing need to install a specific patch, don't do it. |

AskWoody LoungerNovember 1, 2011 at 6:15 am #1304824I use it, its one of the first things I do when setting up after a new install. Its not really a customization, more just a setting in Windows 7. It was one of the first things mentioned by Paul Thurrott back in the RC days…that it should be set to combine only when full by default, not combine from the get go. I guess the other side of the argument is/was that most people would probably use the peek feature and not rely on icon or text identity.
It really sucks in remote because peek doesn’t work and having a half dozen minimized text labels jump out from one icon is almost useless. If ya ever come across a real customization for aero peek in remote for Pro or Home version…post post post! -

AskWoody MVPNovember 1, 2011 at 10:51 pm #1304988That was the first thing I did when I installed “proper” Windows 7 as compared to beta & RC versions although I prefer to use small icons.
It’s still very useful to have a post such as this as there will be people upgrading from XP on a daily basis wondering how they can tailor their task bar.
OT: Every time I see PC World mentioned here it reminds me of a computer superstore in the UK and not a magazine that supplies industry news
