I just upgraded from Vista Home Premium to Windows 7 Home Premium. So far, everything is fine but I do have one question about the themes. I get to the personalize window, and I see different categories of themes. It looks like there are a few different theme choices stacked under the one I see when I click on each different category, but I can’t seem to scroll through the other choices. I’m feeling really stupid at the moment. LOL. Can someone please tell me how to get to all of them? Thanks.

Hi and welcome

there are several types of themes. Basic, aero, etc. there are also 5 hidden geographical themes. we could some more info on “clicking through”.

If you right click>personalization>theme. you can choose your background, etc. what exactly are you trying to do

Thanks for the welcome. I right clicked on my desktop and chose personalize from the drop down menu. I got a window with different themes on it. When I clicked on the nature one, for example, my desktop changed to one of the nature themes. I was just curious to see what the other nature choices were, but no matter what else I did…click, right click…nothing happened. Are the nature themes really stacked like it shows, or is there only one nature theme to choose from? Same question with the other categories. I may keep what I have, but I was just curious to see what was there already. Thanks, again.

After setting a multiple scene theme, Right-Click on the background, a menu will appear and from it just select next background. It will show you the next background in the sequence. Click again and it will forward to the next sequence and so on.

And if you wish to have a slide show with all (or some) of the backgrounds in a particular theme, simply click on “Desktop Background Slide Show”. You can select which backgrounds to display and you can set the cycle time.

I didn’t realize I had set mine for the slideshow and got rather annoyed when my first choice theme was replaced with some hideous flower hehe~! So I fixed it It is very cool all these improvements for our aesthetic appeal

And one of the most annoying things (so far) is the “themes” setup — the pix keep changing even though I unchecked “shuffle” and unchecked the other pix in the ” theme folder.” I’ve tried regular Win7 themes, aero themes, classic windows “themes.” No matter what I do, the picture keeps changing throughout the computing session, which isn’t even all day!
I even tried changing the setting to 1 day, but it insists on changing when it feels like it. There doesn’t appear to be any setting for “do not change.” Grrr.
How the !#$#@!@ can I prevent Win7 from changing my background picture no matter what I do?
In XP, when I set a background picture, it STAYED set.

Do you save the changes as a new theme?

If you re-boot is the saved theme still there with all your changes?

After a re-boot can you select the samed theme?

Sorry, but you failed to mention Slide Show. That looks like what you want (under Desktop Background).

Don’t forget that you can use your own photographs, if you like them better than theirs.

When you click on “Desktop Background (Slide Show)”, you’re presented with the current location of the pictures in your selected theme. The thumbnails have a checkbox in the upper-left corner. Uncheck all but the one you want displayed and then click “Save Changes”. That creates a new “Unsaved Theme” containing only the picture you want displayed on the desktop. You can then right-click on it and save it if you wish.

yes I saved it as a new theme. Few days later when I booted the computer up again, it came on — with a new picture. And sometimes when I go back to the desktop after working for a while, there is another different picture. It’s driving me nuts. Even when I re-clicked on the saved theme, a few hours later, no matter what I think I’ve checked in the preferences department, it behaves for a while, and then poof! another different picture.
I have my icons arranged to coincide with areas of the screen, and when Windows decides to change my wallpaper, the icons are oftentimes difficult to find on the new background.

I remain open to any suggestions — going back to XP seems like a good one, heh heh.

Try creating a folder somewhere and copying the picture you want to use into that folder. Then set that folder to be the one used by your theme.

I make my own theme graphic files, using Corel Paint Shop Pro Photo, and then I stick them all in their own folder, WALLPAPER. I’ve solved the problem of icons being indistinguishable from the wallpaper they’re in front of, by either making the wallpaper pic to be grayscale (or if you will, -100 saturation) or else making the wallpaper pic be barely colored (-75 saturation).

Try the following

[*]note the name of your ideal theme & then navigate to C:WindowsResources
[*]there should be a file there with the name of [chosen name].theme
[*]you will have trouble editing this file where it is, so copy it elsewhere
[*]open the copied file up in Notepad, and navigate down to the bottom where there will be a section headed [Slideshow]
[*]the fourth line will start with Item0Path= – leave that line way it is & delete all the items after that – making sure that there is a blank line at the very end
[*]copy your desired background into C:WindowsWebWallpaper
[*]alter the (now) last line of your file to read Item0Path=%SystemRoot%WebWallpaper[selected picture]
[*]copy the altered theme back into C:WindowsResources & reselect it using the Appearances option in Control Panel

You actually like the Welcome Screen? To each his own. I’m not sure where the image file is.
