Sometime recently my Windows 7 Home Premium Sp1 64 bit stopped printing locally. When you go to print there is a 5 second pause and then whatever program is trying to print will just stop responding. The printers, HP Deskjet 1050 and Samsung ML-1865W, will both print fine from over the network. You are unable to print locally from any browser, any pdf reader, Word, etc. You can print a test page from both printers.

I have tried system restore and it failed 2 times on different restore points.

I tried running the printer fixit troubleshooter from Microsoft no luck.

I tried running from cmd line the net spooler stop and the net spooler start no luck.

I tried turning off the bidirectional printing in the ports no luck.

I ran the sfc/scan now and everything came back ok.

I went through the printer troubleshooter from Microsoft no luck.
Any ideas?? Bad Windows update??

R.C.,

You missed a step..

net stop spooler
del %systemroot%System32spoolprinters* /Q /F /S
net start spooler

HTH

If you know when the problem occurred then try your restore points.

Has another Reader program taken over as the default program ?

If not then I suggest you reinstall Nitro PDF Reader.

You could also check to see if it will print in Safe Mode with Networking or in a clean boot should any other program be causing the hang, but if it works in Safe Mode but not in a clean boot, then you should look to your security programs.

I am not sure when this started but the restore points I have not tried are on days I know it will not print. The printing issue is not just with Nitro. No program— browser, any pdf reader, Word, etc. will not print. It is not just one program but all.

I have not tried safe mode printing yet.

Came across this article http://www.thewindowsclub.com/fix-unable-to-or-cannot-print-web-pages-in-internet-explorer and as a problem in one area could affect others, see if the steps do anything for you.

Per the article you linked ——–If it still does not help, KB973479 recommends that you reset low integrity level on the Low folder.
To do so, open command prompt as admin, type the following and hit Enter:
ICACLS “%userprofile%AppDataLocalTempLow” /setintegritylevel (OI)(CI)low
Alternatively, you can download and apply Microsoft Fix it 50677 to do so automatically. Restart the computer.
You will now be able to print or print preview webpages in your Internet Explorer.

I am now back to printing!!!

Thank you as I never would have know this.

Glad that worked and thanks for the update.

I was wondering if just one aspect was responsible for all so Googled not being able to print from the Internet and got that link.

Hopefully it will help others as it has you.
