Windows 7 Wordpad problem

Aloha, all:

I just transferred a long RTF text file from Wordpad XP to Wordpad 7 on an Ultimate 64-bit OS. The file consists of a HUGE list of Web-links that are carefully color-coded. However, when I open the file in Wordpad 7, these links are no longer color-coded, or, rather, they are randomly colored. To make matters worse, Wordpad 7 will not allow me to modify ANY color; I can click on a color, highlight the link, & then try to apply the color, but nothing at all happens.

I can’t find anything on-line at Microsoft or elsewhere that addresses this issue. Any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

If you can still access the original file, would converting it to .pdf then try as you stated.

How does it go if you load the RTF into a different app, such as Word or OpenOffice?

I can load the RTF into Word 2007/2010 with no problem, but don’t want to keep it open all the time, which is why I’m using Wordpad. Why would I want to convert the RTF into a PDF, Roderunner? This is a file that gets changed many times each day, & using Acrobat Pro to modify it would be even worse than Word!

Hi Ken, my suggestion was if it was converted to pdf, you could possibly save it as file type of your choice in the program you wanted originally. Hopefully without any changes.

Again, I’m missing something here. I can open the file just fine in Wordpad 7. What doesn’t happen is that the existing color-coding goes missing, & I can’t color-code any of the several thousand links. I’m trying to figure out if this is a bug that Microsoft can fix, or just a missing feature.

I’m guessing it’s a bug, as why would they bother to put in the color selections if you can’t use it?

It’s strange that Wordpad would have less functionality in Windows 7 than it did in Windows XP. Can’t think of a reason for that. Perhaps you could report it to Microsoft as a bug.

That’s what I’m thinking, too. I’ve since found that I can’t underline or bold any of the links, either. This almost has to be a bug. Can any of you duplicate this problem? My system is an HP Z800 workstation with 16 GB RAM, dual Xeons, running Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit, & with an Nvidia FX380 video card (24-bit color). I was wondering if this could be a video problem, but don’t have any similar system to cross-check, so if any of you have at least Win 7 Ult 64-bit, I’d love to hear if you’re seeing the same thing.

Any suggestions on the fastest way to get this bug report to Microsoft?
