My dentist just a few weeks ago converted to digital. All of the information that was kept on paper records is now “on screen” at the patient’s chair, with editable color coding of the information…. even the x-rays are done with a digital camera and available immediately. Impressive computer driven technology.

And what operating system drives all of this new technology? Win 8 with a touch screen? No, Win 7.

I mention this here as one example of why the usage numbers for Win 8 could be flat or falling. Major commercial vendors of useful applications of computers are not rushing to Win 8 either.

My dentist has a similar system, but it runs on XP. It may be the same one, just an earlier version. The one I’ve seen was written by Kodak.

BTW, not only did the win8 share go down in June, but the XP share went UP!

I really hate win 8.1. It is cumbersome and requires more steps to accomplish the same work that I never had problems with before. I have had XP since early 2006. It was easy to learn right from the git-go. It was a work horse. MS has tried several times to make XP bigger and better. Their efforts just keep getting worse.

When will they learn “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.”
