All of a sudden over the weekend(?) the Action Center button on the Taskbar did not open when I clicked it or tried to open it from its right click menu. The Windows button on the Taskbar and the Windows button on the keyboard did nothing. The Search box on the Taskbar did not accept keystrokes. The popup menus for Taskbar icons did not show. The mouse worked fine and the keyboard input was accepted in various program windows. As a different user on the same computer, all features worked as expected. A reboot of the computer did not fix the issue. I uninstalled update KB 3172985 which was installed on July 20. After rebooting, all of the glitches above are gone. Do I dare reinstall that update? Has it been updated itself since the 20th?

The only way know is to re-install the update and see. If the problem ret urns then un-install the update again and don’t let it reinstall again. You could try running ‘SFC /Scannow’ in admin command prompt to see if it finds anything it can fix.

Windows 10 has a history of problems with the Start icon and taskbar not working. A reboot usually fixes it. I’ve experienced it a couple of times myself. The latest Insider builds seem to have fixed it so I expect the Anniversary Edition to be released next month will fix it as well.
