In the last week or so, whenever I start Windows Explorer, it only shows Libraries and Favourites. After about a 40 seconds, the rest of the section entries, Homegroup, Computer and Network appear – a further 20 seconds later and then the actual C:, D:, etc. drives start showing up! I can get to the drive by clicking on a Favourite and in the path click on C: drive and get an immediate listing, but the usual instant availability via the Computer section seems to have gone.

I have an HP Pavilion dm4 64-bit PC with an i5 processor, Windows 7 Home Premium and a 750GB drive.

Any suggestions to restore the flawless performance would be appreciated. Thank you.

Sounds like too many system resources are being consumed. I would start by looking at and eliminating apps starting with Windows. I would use What’s in Startup for this task. I would also clean up temp. files and log files, etc. A little maintenance goes a long way.
