Windows Hello grayed out

The fingerprint reader on my small laptop stopped working and  Windows Hello was  grayed out over 2 years ago. Searching the Asus site for driver update found nothing so I just had to live without it. I’m hoping someone here knows a way to fix this.

Is the fingerprint reader still available in Device Manager?

Have you done any system updates recently?

Do you have a recent system image you could restore?

Yes it’s listed in Device Manager and says it’s working ok.
I’ve done many Windows updates since April 2022 when I couldn’t set Windows Hello Fingerprint in the sign-in options – grayed out. At the time I tried searching ASUS for updates, reinstalling the last driver from 2017, restoring Windows an image backup, searching forums – finally gave up.

Correction – Windows Hello Fingerprint was/is grayed out. Windows Hello PIN works fine.

Have you checked:
Services
GPedit.msc
for anything disabled related to biometrics?

Windows - commercial by definition and now function...
