Hi Everyone: Here is a problem I hope someone can help me with because Hewlett Packard can’t and Microsoft wants $35.00 an incident. I just bought a new all in one printer. I downloaded the drivers from the HP site, and then when it goes to install it I get the following error message:

THE WINDOWS INSTALLER SERVICE COULD NOT BE ACCESSED. THIS CAN OCCUR IF YOU ARE RUNNING WINDOWS IN SAFE MODE, OR IF THE WINDOWS INSTALLER IS NOT CORRECTLY INSTALLED. CONTACT YOUR SUPPORT PERSON FOR ASSISTANCE.

HP told me to call Microsoft, Microsoft told me to call HP. I did both, and I still cannot seem to install this printer. Does anyone know what this Windows Installer error message is and how to fix it so I can install the printer?

    Thanks.

    bagged

Which “4 in one” printer do you have?

What drivers and at what web page did you down load fthem rom?

Also did you try and use the CD that came with the printer before downloading?

Did the instructions say to install the drivers (software) before installing hardware?

I just bought the HP OfficeJet D145.

I downloaded the drivers from the hp site.

There was no CD. I had to send away for it.

I installed the software before installing the hardware and I still got the Windows Installer message.

HP wants me to do a non destructive recovery. I have an aversion to doing that

Logged in as Admin. Can’t install as a limited user

Use “Add Hardware” wizard from Control Panel, not installation EXE from download package.

Actually, guess what? That didn’t work either. It was a windows issue. Windows Installer is part of Windows XP and it got corrupt. How?????????? Beats me, but because my computer came bundled with Windows XP and I did not have the Windows XP disk to retrieve the corrupt file, I had to do a format recovery. Next computer I get, I am having it built for me. Thanks Everyone for input and support on this matter fanfare
