Just recently Windows (Win7 x64) has started locking up not allowing me to do anything (getting the audible click you get when you try clicking on an application when there is a popup you have to deal with first, though there is nothing that needs dealing with) until I press “Ctrl+Alt+Del” & then select “Launch Task Manager”. As soon as Task Manager Is Launched I can just close it without the need to do anything else & Windows is once again responding normally.
Seems to me to be totally random as to when it happens.
Any help on how to stop this rather annoying behaviour greatly appreciated.

Is this immediately on a system boot?

Does Task Manager show any high CPU usage. When in Task Manager, click on the Performance tab and then the “Resource Monitor” button does any area show high usage?

Usually lock ups like that mean high cpu usage or high disk usage. Resource Monitor, as Joe suggested, can provide an insight into what’s happening, so take a look and even leave it running until you find out if any such situation is occurring.

      Hi Alrock43,
After start-up, watch the HDD light on the keyboard, wait till it slows down before doing anything.
