Windows Mail queries

Following instructions on this forum, I’ve now installed and activated Windows Mail on my Win 7 PC. I did this as I couldn’t come to terms with Windows Live Mail, which has an awful interface and is very inflexible.

I like WM and intend to keep using it, but two things are bothering me at this time. One is that I’m unable to set it as the default email client. Although I do so in Options and get the message that “This application is the default Mail handler”, as soon as the Options dialog box is closed the setting is lost. WLM was the default and remains so despite my efforts to get WM to accept responsibility for handling my mail. Is there a way to force it to do so?

The other thing is that one of my two email accounts has installed itself as Local Folders although I gave it a name of its own. Is there some way that label in the folder list can be changed?

Hi Hugh,
If I delete all Windows Live Essentials using Revo Uninstaller, run CCleaner’s Registry cleaner then re install it, all I lose are the messages I had, everything else is automatically added. i.e. my accounts & settings. I also don’t like WLM 2011, thats why I use WLM 2009 on both my pc’s. You can have a copy if you want.

Possibly if you delete WLM, then you can set you WM as you default mail client and it will stick. If you use other portions of the Windows Live Essentials Suite then you can probably keep them and just uninstall WLM, but if you do not use any portion of WLE then uninstall the entire suite and try setting WM as the default again.

Thanks for the replies and advice, chaps. Yes, Roderunner, I’d like to give WLM 2009 a try. How do I gain access to the installation file?

Has anyone got any ideas on my other query about renaming Local Folders? Or installing that account under its own name?
