I have a DVD Writer. I have all my classical music files on my computer’s hard disc, organised in folders as you would in windows. I want to play them on an ordinary (i.e non computer based) DVD player (Panasonic). There is obviously code which is needed to enable the DVD player opening of various levels of folders. Anyone know of any such software which might be available either in wopr or on the web?
All (polite) suggestions gratefully received.

AskWoody LoungerNovember 28, 2004 at 12:26 am #905853Hi Mike,
What format do you have the music file stored in ?? Wav, MP3, MIDI ??? I don’t believe that it will make a difference if you are using a DVD player to play them back, but it’s helpful to know what we’re working with.
Check the User Manual that came with the DVD player to see if it tells you about music format compatability or check the model on the net for reviews and information.

AskWoody LoungerNovember 28, 2004 at 10:50 am #905920I do think you need to check your specific Panasonic documentation, for I found this quote on their web site:
Play Many Popular Music Formats
Most people think of their DVD player simply as a movie machine. This DVD player not only plays prerecorded DVDs and DVD-R2/DVD-RAM discs, but also MP3s3, CDs, CD-R/RW4 discs, WMA5, and DVD-Audio discs.
I didn’t dig any further to see about your “folderizing” question, which you obviously need an answer to before you BURN any discs. Although I suppose you could create a test disc with a few songs in folders and a few at the “root” level to see what happens when you try to play it.

AskWoody LoungerNovember 28, 2004 at 1:11 pm #905947I had a JVC “head unit” in my old truck (just sold it so I can’t check the documentation) that played MP3 files as well as standard audio CDs, and it had some sort of “folder” function that it used to read and play files in seperate folders. The thing had so many functions that someone driving a car doesn’t have the time or ability to devote the attention to while driving and every button had at least 2 functions and often many more, that I was happy just to get it to play 120 MP3 files in random order off one CD. But this would seem to indicate that you can accomplish what you want to do with your music collection and a DVD player.

AskWoody LoungerNovember 28, 2004 at 3:43 pm #905977Thank you for your help. It dawned on me after I had sent the email that there was probably’standard’ code available in proprietary packages. I shall have a play. If it turns out that there is anything difficult/ awkward/unusual I ‘ll write it up for the benefit of others. Otherwise:
Thanks again.

AskWoody LoungerNovember 28, 2004 at 3:33 pm #905972Hi Mike,
All popular CD/DVD burning programs (as Roxio Easy Media Creator 7 or Ahead Nero 6 Ultra Edition) have wizards to help you create music CDs and DVDs in most popular formats that can be read on CD and DVD players. Less popular (and cheaper) programs may lack some features.
