windows media player – add to favourites

Now that I’ve gotten cable internet (supposedlky 3MB) I can listen to radio station 6PR Perth all day long.

I can’t find out how to add “6PR” to a convenient drop-down list on WMP, and would appreciate a nudge in the right direction.

This I see on my screen: (attached)

I could always store the URLs in my browser, but I figure that i ought to be able to store the station directly into WMP.

See the white panel with the little “up/down” arrows in the upper left corner of your screenshot? Within that panel, look for My Favorites.

John, thanks for the response. That up-down opens up a list called “Featured Sations”, but there is no add-to-favorites within it.

I worked through the Help Files, which suggest to choose Files, Add to Media Library, but the Add Currently Playing Track is grayed out.

I’m a firm believer in using the menu system of a Windows application to explore the various features; I can’t see anything that suggests harbouring a radio station.

I’m currently running Media Player v9, under Win98/SE (although I am about to upgrade to XP).

Is V9 perhaps lacking the desired feature?

Windows Media Player has a very “unstandard” interface, to me. Once you get My Favorites onscreen, you need to use the little arrows to the right of it to open a Search window. I tried “Perth” as a search, and got 2 stations. On the right of each station, there was a “double down” arrow. When I clicked on one of them , an “Add to My Stations” link showed up.

I managed to get this working.and managed to add the ABC news to a list.

I then tried seraching for “6PR” with no success.

It seems as if Media Player will let me add to MyFavorites only if Media Player has found them; when I’ve hooked up to a station directly from the station’s web site (by using a browser), Media Player doesn’t seem to allow saving.

I’ll experiment some more, now that you’ve shown me the Goal!

When you say you’ve “hooked to a station by using a browser”, are you actually listening to the station, or just looking at its website? If you’re listening to it, are you using Media Player to do that, or something else? Why don’t you post the URL for the station, and I’ll see if I can figure out how to get it added to Media Player’s My Favorites list?

That’s very kind of you. The radio station is 6PR Perth – 882 Talk Radio. It’s all in English, but you’ll probably think that your feed is garbling the text. Talk radio in Perth is not really the cultural plateau that I think it is (humble grin).

I click on “Listen Live” near the top RH corner; Mozilla Firefox 1.0 produces a pop-up “Opening Live .ASX” dialogue box;
I choose “Open With”, and Mozilla version 9.0.0.2980 begins playing 6PR after a buffering interval.

Over the weekend my Win98SE PC decided to blow up, so I finally decided to move up a planned upgrade to XP Pro . So now I have Media Player 10. When I clicked on the link to 6PR in your message, I got a totally different website layout. No Media Player “link” on the right hand side of the page, just a Listen link on the left side. And it works! I wonder if the station was changing it’s setup, and that’s why we couldn’t get a connection before.

No it didn’t – that was ME upgrading from Win98/Off97 to WinXP/OffXP!

My soon-to-be-new ISP, not the one I mistakenly chose LAST week, says it’s cheaper with XP, hence my upgrade.
