• Windows Mobile Device Center 64-bit Issue?

A post to a Windows Secrets Column in 2009 states that Windows Mobile Device Center is not compatible with 64-bit Office. Since Windows Mobile Device Center v6.1 is available in 32-bit and 64-bit downloads for WINDOWS versions including Windows 7, surely the 64-bit version should work with the Microsoft Office 64-bit version installed with 64-bit Windows???

You’d think so. BUT, that is not necessarily true. Neither Windows Mobile Device Center 6.1 | Windows Vista Support nor Download details: Windows Mobile Device Center 6.1 Driver for Windows Vista (64-bit) mention Office 2010 at all much less a 64-bit Office.

Agreed, but I would expect that if Office 2010 64-bit works with Windows 7 64-bit, and Windows Mobile Device Center 6.1 64-bit works with Windows 7 64-bit, then the same Device Center would work with Office 2010 64-bit. Why else would MS have put out the 64-bit Device Center? Or am I missing something here (I am having a pretty hectic day, after all!!)

Nitce that the 64-bit Device Center download is just a driver. That only allows the device to communicate with the OS not necessarily with Office. Since both links I posted do not say anything about Outlook 2010, I would not assume that it would work with Office 2010 at all regardless of “bitness” until I saw it in writing.

@JoeP: Yes. I accept that reasoning. I will have to experiment. I have just installed 64-bit Windows 7 on a virtual machine and will test Device Centre with Office 2010 of both “bittedness” and see what happens.
