Hi i regularly use WMM to edit my videos but just recently i keep getting this error message:

Windows Movie Maker cannot use the audio file C:UsersRowenaVideosBlending a tip.mpeg is in use by another program or does not contain valid audio data.

Basically i upload them to my computer then copy and save them to a folder on my comp. They are .VOB file to begin with so i change them to .MPEG and this has always worked with no problems whatsoever.
Now all of a sudden for no reason i get that error message. The file is not just an audio file for a start, it is from a sony mini disc (as usual nothing different).
The files are not being used by another program either and they all have audio on them.

Can someone please help as i have tried asking everwhere and no one seem to know what it is!!!???

    Thanks

As to the first possibility, sometimes a process will crash and not release a file. The sledgehammer approach to that problem is to restart Windows so you can be sure that no process has locked the file. If the error persists, then WMM might not be able to decode the audio (e.g., perhaps a different codec was used?).

Hi thanks for your reply. I have tried all sorts…i was advised to complteley shut down and disconnect the power supply, then restart. That didnt work! I have also downloaded the K lite pack of codecs but as i have no idea what they are, how to use them or which ones i need i am really stuck. Any idea’s?

      Thank you

Mpeg is a video file. You need to rip this to an MP3 or other audio format.
