Patch reliability is unclear. Unless you have an immediate, pressing need to install a specific patch, don't do it. |
I have an odd folder called “Windows Network” listed under my Linux Mint network, I only have one computer and a router so I thought that section would be blank. The permissions tab says: The permissions of “smb” could not be determined – and probably relates to samba shares.
My theory is that its a “placeholder”/mime for my Windows games that look to the Internet for updates. Wine does add right click options to the menu and even offers to use notepad to open things. 🙂

I’ve got 2 computers, one dual boots with Mint 19.2 and Win 7, and one boots only 19.2. Both machines show exactly the same as what you’re seeing. So, I think your theory is correct – it’s just a placeholder.
(I don’t have Wine installed on either machine, but I do have right-click capability on both, although no offer to open things with notepad on either.)
Edit to add: As far as sharing files on the dual boot machine, I just open Home and then on the left under Devices open or mount the OS and I can open my Win 7 files, photos, documents, etc.

Nothing to do with games. It’s just a convenient location for mounting Server Message Block (SMB) network device shares. Windows networking is the major user of SMB.
Linux computers generally use Network File System (NFS), so having a convenient place to mount SMB shares makes it easy to differentiate.
