Windows Phone 8.1 Official (AT&T) Update.

I just finished a 5-minute, 2-reboot pre-update update to prepare my Nokia Lumia 1520 for Windows Phone 8.1. It’s currently downloading the 8.1 update (which appears to be fairly large, but I’m on my home WiFi, so size doesn’t really matter).

I’ll keep you posted.

Well, Cortana is a trip! I asked, “Where am I”, and she replied, “As near as I can tell, you’re at …” (almost had the address nailed – one house off). I tried again a little later, and she said, “Looks like you’re at …” (closer, but not quite on it).

I think that the more I use Cortana, the better it’ll get. I’ve used it to set a new alarm, and the days for the alarm to ring. Lots for me to learn here. I’m already thinking that this could prove to be very handy at work.

I’m using Cortana more and more, particularly for setting reminders. It’s so much easier and quicker to just say what I need instead of having to type it out. Then Cortana reads it back to confirm, (usually gets it right) and then sets the reminder. It’s quite handy for location reminders, particularly. “Remind me when I’m at *location* to *action*.

I work outside quite a bit, and Florida weather, particularly at this time of year, can change in just a few minutes. I found a free weather app (it has ads), MyRadar Weather Radar. It’s uses one’s location to give current relevant live radar images. It’s a bit pixelated when zoomed in, but loads very quickly and is “good enough” to know location and direction of thunderstorms.

The current app only covers the continental contiguous US.
