Succeded to upgrade to the latest 2004 version – it was pending install on my Wondows 10 Setting so I went for it. It stopped due to lack of disk space, but gave me the option to insert a USB and use it for the upgrade process (I did, but it took more than 12 hours to upgrade – maybe also because it was a USB2).

Once completed, some features connected to right-click are no longer working.

In particular, right-clicking on the Windows Start flag I get all options but only those directly connected to the Windows Settings work (Apps & Feature, Power Options, System, Network Options, Settings, Search, Run, Logout/shutdown, Desktop). All others do not result in any action whatsoever. I have reported this to the MS Framework Hub, but not sure they arrived at destination. The options not working are all those dealing with Computer Management (Task Manager, Disk/Computer/Device Management, PowerShell).

Additionally some features (like the Search) seems to stick to the top left hand-side of the monitor and will not move nor go away unless you kill the window).

      Hmmm, my upgrade went fine.
I’m sure you have rebooted a couple times by now.  Try running Troubleshoot under Settings > Update & Security > Troubleshoot.
See if your mouse driver needs updating.
      Good luck.

Thank you for reporting difficulties after installing Windows 10.2004; the information is useful.

The search screen can’t be moved.

Installed Build 2004 on an older Dell Studio 17 and it nuked my display driver.  Replaced it with a generic driver.  Lost original resolution, display was terrible.  Original resolution no longer available.  Additionally it wiped out my power settings.  Sleep was no longer available.

Reverted to 1909 build and everything was back to the original settings.  Now of course I wonder when I will be forced to install this build.  Because Dell no longer supports Studio laptops…I cannot find the original driver on AMD’s website.

Despite my having ‘locked down’ all Windows updates until 6/23, Microsoft, in all their wisdom, updated my computer to 2004!!!  Of course, it not only removed a couple of desktop icons, it also changed my settings from ‘show hidden files’ to not show them.  It even went so far as to put my mouse buttons back to ‘normal’ from my ‘reversed’ setting.

And because 2004 is a ‘hunter killer’ update, it not only made the update ‘non-removable’, it even went so far as to REMOVE all backup restore points too!

Fortunately, I’m sufficiently backed up with full clones of my SSD C: drive and as all drives are in slide bays, 30 seconds was all I needed to restore everything back to normal from last Sunday.  Copy new documents and other files from former C: to new C:, copy Firefox bookmarks from the former C: and I’m all set.

I suspect I’ll have to make full-clone backups more frequently.  2004 will NOT put itself on MY COMPUTER until I SAY SO!!!

Major upgrades always remove prior restore points. That’s why everyone recommends a System backup before upgrading.

I intentionally upgraded (i.e. I deliberately sought out the upgrade and then pressed the button to download and install) my sacrificial laptop to 2004 a couple of days back. It took a LONG time, but no obvious problems apart from it forgetting the colour of the Taskbar

So, I was planning to upgrade my main pc sometime soon, at my leisure. It told me that the upgrade was available. However I did not press the button to upgrade, as I wanted to wait a little while longer to see if any major nasties were being reported

But, it kindly installed it for me on my main pc anyway, without any intervention on my part. The first I knew of it was when it told me that it needed to restart

The install went ahead without any hitches, and I’m not seeing any problems (or, to be honest, anything much different, except that my Search Box no longer displays a couple of non-existent apps which it erroneously thought I used all the time. It now displays a couple of existent apps which it erroneously thinks I use all the time)

Really though, what’s the point of giving the user the option to delay doing something, and then blithely ignoring their wishes, and going off and doing that thing anyway? So, pretty miffed about that, but no obvious harm done, and on the bright side at least Cortana’s been well and truly junked

Thanks Woody. I saw that there had been problems reported, but at the time everything looked normal. I had the big shiny button available to press to start the process, and, stupidly, I thought I could just sit and wait until I was ready to actually press that button. How naively trusting I was

One thing that may (or may not) be related, is that now, on my main pc (with Windows Pro), I no longer have anything in Advanced Options other than “Pause Updates”. Before the upgrade I had the option to delay both Feature and Quality Updates separately from that screen. I guess it’s because the registry tweaks I’d previously made to DeferFeatureUpdate and DeferQualityUpdate have both been reset by the upgrade to zero

    • #2272012

Same with me in Advanced Options about Feature and Quality updates disappearing.  Also if you check the registry under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\WindowsUpdate\UX\Settings

the registry keys for defer feature update and defer quality update have BEEN ERASED form the registry altogether.  Looks like Mircosoft doesn’t want us to defer ANY updates.

      also in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\WindowsUpdate\UpdatePolicy\PolicyState

the defer feature update and defer quality update values were reset to zero even though I usually set them to 30 days and 3 days respectively.

Time to roll back to 1909 before the 10 days are up to do so.

the Windows Start flag I get all options but only those directly connected to the Windows S

On the pending install, was it naturally pending install w/o any action from you or did you Check for updates and that’s how it went through the motions to becoming pending install?

How long ago did you update to the 2004 version? What version of 2004 are you on?
      — My Dell Inspiron 580 desktop from the days of Windows 7 May 2011 & now Windows 10 is on version 2004 (OS Build 19041.329).
      — What version did you upgrade from?

While updating “It stopped due to lack of disk space, but gave me the option to insert a USB and use it for the upgrade process (I did, but it took more than 12 hours to upgrade – maybe also because it was a USB2).”
      — On the lack of disk space, what size is the disk and how much space was available at that time?
      — Are you using an HDD or an SSD? What is the make/model of the drive?
      — More than 12 hours isn’t unusual: I know that from experience.

Now there are many items that are not working correctly.
      — Did you have any issues with the previous version?

On “the MS Framework Hub”, do you mean “Feedback Hub”
      — If so, you will not hear back from them, but you can go to the Feedback Hub & see if there are any comments about your situation: maybe even find similar comments similar to yours.

Moving on, save your data immediately.
      — Note the applications you use are recorded along with their product keys if any.
