Just installed a fresh and legal copy of XP Pro SP3 on a refurb system. After installing the hardware drivers, I always install IE8 with XP, because that saves a lot of useless updates of IE via the Windows update site. I entered in the product key and activated this copy of Windows successfully. But now there seem to be a raft of related issues, which I have never seen before:
1. The date is stuck with Eastern Standard Time, and no way to change it to Daylight.
2. Nearly all of the Microsoft sites give errors that the some content is blocked or that there is some security issue.
3. The Microsoft Update web site refuses to update, complaining that the system’s time certificate is incorrect, which it is.
This apparent breakage of the Microsoft web sites must have happened in the last 10-12 hours, because I was able to successfully set up another XP Pro system earlier today.
Yep, this is annoying. I have wasted some time trying to work out what to do. I updated the registry from my own XP system in an attempt to fix the standard time problem. No dice. I’ll quit for the night.
